Windows XP remediation - Rush to 7 or Wait for 8
Microsoft will stop all support for Windows 8 in a little under 2 years on April 8, 2014. Companies with large estates of Windows XP based systems who have not yet started to replacement them may face a dilemma - do we rush now to move these machines to Windows 7, or wait until Windows 8 is available and go straight to that version. There are several factors to consider in making such a decision, but in this blog I want to focus just on the time factor: how long you have left and how that might influence you decision.
Windows XP end of life
The clock is ticking on Windows XP. From 8th April 2014 Microsoft says it will stop providing security fixes and patches, updates and online technical support for the 10 year old Windows XP operating system. This means that you will no longer receive security updates that can help protect your PC from harmful viruses, spyware and other malicious software that can steal your personal information. This could have a serious impact on your business. It's time to start planning an upgrade.
